In the 19th century, the property of Lamothe belonged to Monsieur d’Elbauve, also the owner of the very beautiful and very old abbey of Vertheuil. When Gabriel Fabre, back from Morocco, bought the Domaine in 1964, wine production had ceased. The 33 hectares of vines that today make up the Château Lamothe vineyard were planted from April 1967 on a clay-limestone hillock and a “mound” of gravel.
